Siren Gets Her Own Girlboat

sirenSiren Sundby, gold medallist in the Athens 2004 Olympics, will skipper an all female crew made up of the best female Sailors in Norway. The crew is set to compete in the Federseilasen, which is one of Norway's largest regattas, on June 9th of this year.

Sundby, the Olympic gold champion in E-dingy in Athens, is active again. She has indeed not decided what will happen with her own competition sailing, but she is ready to sail a brand new C&C 115 and will have the most outstanding female sailors in this country as crew including:

Jeanette Lunde is one of the few Norwegians that have participated in both winter and summer Olympics. In 2000 she sailed 470 in Athen together with Carolina Toll.

Lise Birgitte Fredriksen will sail in the next Olympics together with Alexandra Koefoed who is also on board.Fredriksen sailed Yngling together with Karianne Eikeland in Athens 2000.

Linda Kontorp sailed E-dingy in the Olympics in 1996 and was top in her class.

On the fore deck on the 38 footer they will have one of the toughest female sailors- Anne-Marit Hansen doing her job in match racing and is confident she can hold her own against the mostly male competition.

Janett Krefting is one of Norway's best female Snipe sailors and has, among many other things, won the world championship in Snipe together with Karianne Eikeland.

Pia Farstad comes from the demanding matchsailing world as well and has sailed together with Eikeland as well.

“The helmsman is still undecided, but we are working to get a particular girl for that job - one of the best”, says Sundby.

For many years the E-dingy was her boat, but Sundby looks forward to racing the new C&C 115. “I like the challenge,” says Sundby.

Siren Sundby has much experience in this particular regatta. She has sailed together with her parents and brother in the family boat and has also participated with her formerer trainer Thomas Guttormsen.

“Ferderseilasen has always been a pleasant happening in between all my training,” said Sundby.

This year the big regatta is in its 59th year and as expected more than 1,000 boats will be on the starting line. There will be other “girlboats” in the regatta, but the competitors have never seen a stronger team than the one Siren Sundby will skipper this year.

“It is fantastic to have so many good sailors on board. I really look forward to compete together with these girls.I have always sailed against them in the past, so teaming up should be a great experience” said the Olympic champion.

According to Sundby the crew all look forward to sailing and hope that a quick boat and so many good sailors will help them bring home good results.

Good Luck to this All Female Team!
